Capturing e-mail addresses with Aweber

by Cory on Dec.08, 2009, under Affiliate advertising, Links

One very important thing bloggers should do is to capture the e-mail addresses of people that read their blog. This is something I have not done yet. I have been putting it off because of what I perceive to be the complexity of doing it. I had searched for widgets and plug-ins and I could not find anything that I could install. Additionally, I wanted something to do more than just capture e-mail addresses. I wanted something that would auto respond, help me manage a mailing list, help me send newsletters and product promotions. (continue reading…)

Back Up and Running

by Cory on Dec.03, 2009, under Links

It has been a long time since I have posted on my blog. I want to apologize to all of my readers for this lapse. Suffice it to say, that I have been going through a myriad of personal problems, and I needed to handle those first before I could focus on this blog.

With the new enthusiasm and some new ideas, I want to get back on this horse. This passive income journey has been good to me. Even with my absence, I have still maintained a fair amount of income in respect to the small amount of work that I have put into it.

The articles and posts will be coming regularly to you now. I want to thank you for bearing with me through this difficult time. Your comments and suggestions have really made me believe that I am doing a service here. So thank you again.

Mentally Bridging a Web Traffic Conundrum

by Cory on Oct.03, 2009, under Blog, Income Reports

I have been spending the past few hours going through my logs and web traffic statistics. In all honesty, I am more than just confused. There is a large discrepancy between my Web statistics, and my advertising statistics.

Let me explain:

I will use this month of October as an example. It is poignant because it is only the third day of October. According to my Web statistics, I have had 421 visits this month. Granted, I realize many of these are spammer hits. Therefore, what I have been looking at are the visits that have lasted between 30 seconds and 30 minutes. My assumption was that these were people that were actually reading the blog. If I use this number of 127 people it shows a good readership. However, when I look at my advertising statistics, such as Adsense, they tell me I have only had two hits this month. This coincides with the number of hits that is recorded from Crazy Egg(continue reading…)

My Apologies

It is more than obvious that I have been doing a poor job of updating this blog in September. I feel that I owe a bit of an explanation.

First off, I had a hard drive crash. As you know, I was able to recover using Carbonite.com. I also had a family medical emergency with my mother, which required my constant attention. As much as I am committed to the readers of this blog, I am just a little more committed to my family. Within the next 3-4 days, I will be able to commit myself again to this, and my other blogs.

I want to thank you for coming here repeatedly. Your feedback has kept me motivated for these past few months. I will update again soon, with some very useful information! Thank you again for your loyalty.

As a side note; I just installed a “CAPTCHA” to my comment  form. I hope it does not inconvenience you too much, however, I was receiving over 100 spam comments per day! Thank you for understanding.

Life Gone Crazy

the road

Between my hard drive crash and the other projects I am launching, I have seriously neglected this blog. I apologize for that. However, here is what I have learned over the past 2 to 3 weeks. I am starting to comprehend how to build blog traffic. Even with my sad updates, I am receiving 150 hits per day. This is twice what I had last month…. I have you to thank for that!!!!!!!

I make a commitment to update this blog as least four times per week from here on. I truly want to update you with the new information that I have gained over these past few weeks.

My projects have been fivefold.
1. I am creating three new blogs. Two of which will be linked to this site. (continue reading…)

Thank God for Carbonite

I am sure you have noticed that I have been away for the past two weeks. It seems that as of late I’ve been having more than my share of technical difficulties. Here is the next in the long line of technical dramas that I have experienced. The computer that I use to update my blog and write my eHow articles crashed two weeks ago. I brought it in to see if I could get it repaired. But, to no avail. It was a laptop computer that I use for most of my Internet business. After the “techs” told me that the hard drive was fried, I was fairly upset. Instead of jumping in and buying another PC, I decided to purchase a server grade computer. Obviously, this took a little time.

With this type of computer it took far longer than normal for me to understand how to set it up. However, I believe it will be worth it. The next step was to arrange the programs, settings and options, similar to my last computer. Again, this was more complicated, because the computer is far more powerful. Or, I should say, the operating system is far more powerful.

Now I get to the subject of my post. Carbonite. Yes, this is going to be another sales pitch. As you know, I do not recommend any affiliate that I do not believe in. I do believe in Carbonite. Carbonite saved me many days of trying to re-create files. It was actually a fairly simple process. I clicked on two or three links to completely restore my hard drive database of files, articles, and programs. I am highly recommending a Carbonite to you. It is very inexpensive, only about $60 per year. I guarantee that if your hard drive crashes, it will be the cheapest $60 you ever spent.

Now, here is what I do not like about Carbonite, the affiliate program. The commission is good, and the product is good, however, they use Commission Junction as their affiliate portal. Commission Junction makes you jump through the most convoluted hoops to retrieve the HTML code to put on your site. As of this writing, I am still waiting to be approved, whatever that means, to place the Carbonite banner on my sidebar.

Carbonite is an awesome product, I recommend it to anyone who cares about their data. However, if you want to become an affiliate, be prepared to jump through the flaming hoops.

Final day to register for the eHow challenge

by Cory on Aug.31, 2009, under EHow

Today is the last day to register for the eHow writing challenge contest. If you are not familiar with this contest, take a look at the eHow writing challenge.

I was actually quite pleased with the number of people that decided to register for the contest. At this point, there are six people registered. That may not sound like much, but for a new blog, I am really happy with the results. Think of it this way, 6 people times 300 articles each; with an average of $1 per article per month… this means combined we will be generating an additional $1800 per month! I also think it will be a great exercise in trying to come up with new ideas for topics. I believe that most of us can agree that this is the most daunting part of writing articles for eHow.

I certainly hope that in this last day more of you will register for this challenge. I know that the more of you register the harder I am going to work to try to keep my 50 bucks!

To Do List August — September

by Cory on Aug.25, 2009, under Blog, Cash Crate, EHow, Passive income, Web hosting service

Firstly, I would like to apologize for not updating the blog for the past few days. I had a family emergency I needed to take care of. So, please forgive me if I was away from my computer for the past five days.

Here are the things that I want to do for the rest of August and into September:

1.

There are two blogs that I regularly read, and I want to begin to comment on them at least twice a week. These blogs are well worthwhile in reading, and commenting. I just need to make in my priority. This will do two things; first, it will stimulate discussion on passive income and blogging. Secondly, I hope it will bring more traffic to my site, as well as entice you to read their sites. These two blogs are pro-blogger and smart passive income.

2.

It is obvious said I must hone my website. At times my blog looks clumsy. So I will spend some time streamlining things. I have gotten some great suggestions by e-mail on how to do this. I do not agree with all of the suggestions, but there were several that I plan to implement. I also want to thank those of you that sent (continue reading…)

Other Ways to Look at Passive Income

by Cory on Aug.19, 2009, under Passive income

From time to time, I would like to talk about other ways to create passive income. Granted, this blog will mostly focus on Internet passive income. However, there are many other things in my life that could be adjusted to create passive income.

Currently, I am searching for a roommate. This has turned into a frustrating experience. I have a two-bedroom apartment, but I live her alone. I thought it might be wise to rent out the other bedroom. My rent is $875 per month and I want to rent them a room out for $425 per month. The frustrating part is that many of these applicants are people that I do not think I could get along with in this apartment. I think I need to keep trying.

(WARNING!!!!! This video is hilarious, but contains ADULT LANGUAGE)

.

This experience, however, has made me think. If I am wasting an entire bedroom that could be producing passive income, how many other things am I wasting? I think we all do things, or have things that other people want. Why not rent these things to those people? Or combine efforts to save money, such as carpooling. I have started to think about things that I am wasting that other people might want.

Some numbers. If a roommate pays me $425 per month, (continue reading…)

More Rules for the Ehow Writing challenge

by Cory on Aug.19, 2009, under EHow

You must register by 31AUG09… you can do this by email to cory@easykindamoney.com . Simply email your Ehow profile name, and a valid return email address.

You cannot pay others to write articles for you. This may be difficult to discern, but if your articles are written in several different “voices” you may be disqualified… ( this will be decided by the subjective judgment of the host of this contest, me.)

As much  as I abhor it, to qualify for the prize must provide the login information to your account. This is to prove that it is YOUR account that I am reading. Your information will not be used for any other purpose, and will be destroyed after verification.

By registering, you agree to all of the rules.
